NOTES FROM THE TABLE

Meet Scorpion

Scorpion on zgomr.com uses one 52-card deck with four suits. Moves build down in the same suit rather than allowing cross-suit destinations. The tableau has seven columns. Four complete King-to-Ace runs clear the game.

The initial seven columns

All cards in the last three columns are face up. The first three cards in each of the first four columns are face down. Three cards remain in the stock. Each opening column contains seven cards for a total of 49 tableau cards.

Build in the same suit

A few details help explain this feature. A King cannot land on another card because no higher rank exists. A moved group's leading card must land on a card exactly one rank higher in the same suit. A seven of hearts cannot land on an eight of spades. A seven of hearts can land on an exposed eight of hearts.

Move exposed groups

A few details help explain this feature. The leading selected card still has to meet the destination rule. The selected cards do not need to share a suit to travel together. Any face-up card can be selected together with every card beneath it. The selected cards do not need to descend in rank to travel together.

Only Kings fill empty space

The following details apply here. A group led by a lower rank cannot enter an empty column. An empty column accepts a King or a group led by a King. Cards beneath a moved King do not need to be in sequence. An empty column is therefore less flexible than an empty column in ordinary Spider.

Reveal the hidden cards

Keep these points in mind. Undo restores the earlier hidden-card arrangement when the move is reversed. Removing all face-up cards above a hidden card turns that hidden card face up. The next hidden card is revealed automatically. An exposed card can carry the cards beneath it when its own destination is legal.

Use the stock once

A few details help explain this feature. There are no further stock cards after the three-card deal. Dealing places a face-up card on each of the first three columns. This Scorpion version permits its stock deal when columns are empty. The stock contains one final deal of three cards.

Complete a suit

Here are the details for this mode. A completed run must descend from King to Ace in one suit. The game removes a qualifying run automatically from the bottom of a column. Moving an unordered group does not make that group a completed sequence. All thirteen cards in a collected run must be face up.

Practice Scorpion decisions

A few details help explain this feature. Replay and Undo let you explore another approach to the same layout. Checking the whole moved group helps you anticipate what will become blocked. A move can carry unwanted cards along with a useful leading card. Hint lists legal choices without promising a winning continuation.
